It is what we experience in our everyday lives and what we dream of at night. It is how we touch reality and how we lose ourselves to our imaginations.

Hirona Matsuda + Nina Garner + Kristy Bishop +Sarah Frierson - Previous Artists

Hirona Matsuda has been showing her assemblages since graduating in 2007 with degrees in Anthropology and Art. Hirona primarily uses found or salvaged objects piecing together scenes that are often representational.

Nina's fascination with the worn and aged is present in her pieces. Oftentimes her photographs are stained with tea or coffee and then decorated with dried flowers or vintage lace.

Kristy Bishop spends her summers road tripping across the US. Kristy has returned to Charleston where she continues to find inspiration from local flora and fauna.  She incorporates oil painting, using broad brush strokes and vibrant color, with sewing, embroidery, and fabric dye to create her artwork.

Sarah Frierson graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2008 with a BFA in Painting.  Her paintings, combining oil and encaustic techniques, illustrate forgotten and recovered memories, and moments in time.

Kenton James - Previous Artist

Kenton James' figurative oil paintings are emotional scenes conveying both calm and anxiety, stillness and fear. The paintings are best described as a type of 'visual noir,' a screenshot, a detail, of a much more elaborate scene, which engages the viewer to imagine and subjectively rewrite the surrounding narrative.

Born in Appleton, Wisconsin, raised on both coasts, and trained as a Biological Engineer (no kidding….), James currently lives and works downtown Charleston, South Carolina.  Kenton’s paintings and sketches are regularly available at SCOOP Studios or at his website.

Helen Rice & Johnny Tucker - Previous Artists

Johnny Tucker:  registered Architect, voter, and operator of motor vehicles (not exceeding 26,000 lbs.);  unregistered artist, bicyclist, book collector, film addict, Franco & Italophile, and food/wine lover/snob.

Helen Rice: I wake up, I drink coffee, I water the garden, I sit at the computer, I sit at the computer, I sit at the computer, I sit at the computer, I sit at the computer, I sit at the computer, I sit at the computer, I sit at the computer, I sit at the computer, I sit at the computer, I sit at the computer, I clean things, I eat food, I go to sleep.

Christopher Murphy - Previous Artist

Christopher creates bold and colorful abstract paintings that go beyond pure design to explore contemporary culture and the collective human experience. A recognized artist, Murphy participates in multiple art events and exhibitions both regionally and nationally.

Most recently, he had a solo show at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Washington, DC. His dramatic abstracts enjoy strong reviews consistently. Murphy's art expresses the essence of subjects through this hidden visual language. And it is on this level, that the viewer responds so strongly.

Christopher Murphy’s works can be seen and purchased on a regular basis at SCOOP Studios at 57 ½ Broad Street. t: 843.577.3292
